The School of Visual Arts’s BFA Photography and Video Department annual exhibition "Becoming" was an excellent opportunity to utilize all the skills in organizing and promoting a show. In the role of Special Programs and Projects Coordinator, I wrote and proofed copy for correspondence, social media posts, and wall text. Researched and acquired licensing rights for Weegee images, created the video for the gallery window promoting the show, helped hang the show, and made all of the video assets for social media and newsletters supporting the show which you see some of here.
“Becoming 2022 (New York Is A Friendly Town)”
October 26 – Saturday, November 19, 2022
SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City
For the 2022 iteration of “Becoming,” six third-year BFA Photography and Video
students and six department alumni were invited to respond to six historic black and white photographs from the department's collection by the famed photographer of
New York City nights, Weegee (born Usher Fellig, 1899-1968). Each participant
selected two of the Weegee prints as prompts for creating their own two works.
The six Weegee photographs are on view in tandem with the students’ and
alumni’s visual responses, inviting visitors to find connections
between the new works and the historic images that prompted them.
The subtitle of the exhibition, “New York Is A Friendly Town,”
comes directly from one of the six Weegee photographs included in the exhibition.
